The SR 76 Corridor begins at I-5 in the City of Oceanside, Intersects I-15 in North San Diego County and ends at SR 79 in the most northeasterly corner of San Diego County.Segment 1 of the corridor includes the most westerly eight miles of the corridor through the urban core of the City of Oceanside. This segment carries an Average Daily Traffic (ADT) volume of 48,000-60,000 vehicles per day and was widened to a four-lane expressway during the early 1990s. At the eastern end of this segment, the corridor becomes a two-lane conventional highway through the rural and scenic San Luis Rey River Valley. Segment 2 of the corridor, from Melrose Dr. in the City of Oceanside to S. Mission Rd. in Bonsall, measures 5.5 miles and serves a mixture of local, regional and inter-regional traffic. This segment carries an ADT volume of 33,000-42,000 vehicles per day. Roughly half of the trips along this segment originate within the communities of Fallbrook and Bonsall, and the cities of Oceanside and Vista. The remaining trips within this segment of the corridor are a mix of interregional trips originating in Southern Riverside County and commuter trips between I-5 and I-15. Most intersections operate above capacity, and traffic queuing is common during peak travel periods. Continue...
