Trolley Renewal

Construction in downtown San Diego will occur from October 2011 through 2013, and will include work needed to implement the Quiet Zone.

Access for residents and businesses will be maintained at all times. Signage will be placed to alert patrons and residents to temporary detours.

Round-the-clock work will be conducted on selected weekends, suspending all Trolley services during those construction periods.

After nearly 30 years of operation, the Metropolitan Transit System’s Trolley is undergoing a massive overhaul.

New low-floor Trolleys, track, and station platforms are all part of the project to update the system over the next several years. Construction began in fall 2010 and is scheduled to be completed by 2015.

The renewal project is focused on improving the Blue and Orange lines. The project will improve station amenities; raise platforms; replace old rail and overhead wire; and improve switching, signaling, and crossovers. When the renewal is complete, riders will see minutes shaved off travel time.

The realignment of the Green Line now allows riders to travel from Mission Valley to the Convention Center or PETCO Park without transferring.
