Grand Opening of the Georgia – Meade Bikeway!

On Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., SANDAG hosted a community celebration for the opening of the Georgia – Meade Bikeway at Garfield Elementary School. The community celebration began with a brief speaking program featuring local community leaders and bike advocates followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony and self-guided celebratory bike ride. Additionally, the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition hosted a bike rodeo featuring family-friendly obstacle courses, bike safety training, and opportunities to win prizes.

Groundbreaking Ceremony and Community Celebration

Representatives from SANDAG, the City of San Diego, and the San Diego County Bicycle Coalition were joined by community members at Cherokee Point Park in City Heights to break ground on the Georgia – Meade and Landis Bikeways on December 12, 2019.

Project Aesthetics Questionnaire

In early 2018, SANDAG sought community input on aesthetic elements that could be included on bikeways in the North Park and Mid-City areas.

Community Presentations

Since the North Park | Mid-City Bikeways planning process began in 2013, ten community workshops were held and more than 100 presentations were made to community groups. Community members have discussed project details and provided input on the bikeway designs in order to achieve the goal to create more opportunities to walk and bike in a low-stress environment.
