I-15 Managed Lanes South Segement Groundbreaking

This project will build on the success of the existing reversible HOV Lanes on I-15 and expand SANDAG’s FasTrak road pricing program by creating a 20-mile managed lanes facility in the median of I-15 between SR 163 and SR 78. Once completed, the I-15 Managed Lanes will feature:

• a four-lane HOV facility with movable barrier (similar to the San Diego - Coronado Bridge)
• multiple access points to and from regular highway lanes
• direct access ramps for buses, carpools and I-15 FasTrak customers.
• a high-frequency express bus system, Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)

The I-15 FasTrak Program allows solo drivers to pay a per-trip fee to use the existing high occupancy vehicle (HOV) lanes. These center-median lanes run along eight miles of I-15 between Kearny Mesa and Rancho Penasquitos in the City of San Diego. Carpoolers, vanpoolers, motorcycles, permitted hybrid vehicles and transit riders use these HOV lanes for free. Learn more about FasTrak!
