The SR-76 East, which is still in the planning stage and will continue improvements from South Mission Road to I-15, will be the third of three improvement projects to the SR-76 corridor between I-5 and I-15 funded by the half-cent sales tax known as TransNet. The first, SR-76 West, was completed in 1999 and improved the highway from I-5 to Melrose Drive. Construction will begin on the second project, the Middle Segment stretching from Melrose Drive to South Mission Road, in 2009.
East Segment
The East Segment from South Mission Road in Bonsall to the I-15/SR-76 Interchange, serves primarily regional and interregional trips between I-5 and I-15. Current Average Daily Traffic counts (ADTs) on this segment range from 22,000-28,000 trips per day. Traffic on this segment currently operates at an acceptable level of service, but traffic is projected to exceed capacity by 2030.
Improvements east of I-15 are in the planning stages but are not part of the TransNet program.
