After the Draft Environmental document is circulated in 2007, a finding will determine the "least environmentally damaging practicable alternative" (LEDPA). At that time a "preferred alternative" will be selected.
The project will be constructed to allow bikes to use the shoulders of the road. The design will incorporate bike friendly features including special grates on drainage inlets.
At this time we are exploring different options and alternatives that include widening the existing structure and also include building a new parallel structure. If the "southern alternative" were selected as the preferred alternative no changes would occur at the bridge.
We have been working with County Park planners for the past two years to coordinate their efforts with the highway effort. We share environmental information and attend project development meetings jointly to ensure that neither project precludes the other.
