Water Quality
As part of the mitigation process throughout the North Coast Corridor, SANDAG and Caltrans are always looking at ways to improve water quality within San Diego County’s six lagoons. Proposed project plans include bridge widening or lengthening, which will improve tidal circulation, and installing detention basins or bioswales that will help to filter runoff prior to reaching the wetlands. For example, the proposed lengthening of the I-5 bridge over Buena Vista Lagoon will help improve water quality and tidal flow. This and many other projects like it have been programmed into the NCC Program to ensure enhanced environmental preservation and coastal access throughout the corridor and its six lagoons.
